Perched on a cliff overlooking the Indian Ocean in Trincomalee, Koneswaram Temple is one of the most revered Hindu temples in Sri Lanka.

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, the original temple was said to be part of the ancient Pancha Ishwarams (five coastal temples). The Portuguese destroyed much of it in the 17th century, but it was later restored. The temple is a significant site of Tamil Hindu pilgrimage and mythology.
